Partner Agency Participation Criteria
- Organization is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) corporation. Click here to download a pdf document with informaton about how to apply for tax-exempt status.
- Organization gives food directly to the needy, ill or infants in the form of meals or food boxes for emergency situations.
- Organization understands that the Second Harvest Food Bank cannot provide all items necessary for a nutritious meal or food box, and so must receive donations (for example: from food drives) or have the ability to purchase items not available through our food distribution program.
- Organization has an established process to screen clients, keep accurate records on individuals served, and has established procedures for distribution of food (including times, days, amounts, etc.).
- Organization does not exclude people based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, handicap, marital status or sexual orientation.
- Organization agrees to provide monthly statistics to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
- Organization agrees to provide transportation and personnel to pick up and load product at the Second Harvest Food Bank warehouse during designated distribution days. If traveling in an open-bed truck, your agency agrees to provide and use tarp and tie-downs to secure product.
- Organization has adequate refrigeration and/or storage space to ensure the integrity of the product until used and/or distributed.
- Organization agrees to store product in an established church or agency building (not a private residence or mobile unit without climate controls).
- Organization is licensed or certified by all appropriate health authorities, as required.
- Organization agrees to a bi-annual (or when appropriate) on-site monitoring visit by Second Harvest Food Bank staff and/or volunteers.
- Organization agrees to support the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, Inc. with the handling fee (currently $.18 per pound unless otherwise stated) for product received. A financial statement showing invoice numbers, payments received and amount due will be sent to partner agencies each month. Agencies must agree to pay the balance within 30 days of receipt of this statement and must be paid with partner agency checks.
