A Community Challenge Campaign to Feed
Our Neighbors in Need.
This year, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC commemorates 30 years of feeding hungry families, seniors, children and others in need in partnership with local communities across Northwest North Carolina. Against a backdrop of continued high unemployment, significant underemployment and increasing awareness and concern over the incidence of hunger among children and seniors, we are committed to doing even more to address hunger and especially among the most vulnerable living in each of the 18 counties we serve.
A challenge campaign, made possible through commitments from several generous individuals, the Duke Endowment and the Wyndham Corporation, wil match every $2 donated with $1 to expand two special programs into each of the 18 counties served by Second Harvest Food Bank. You can read more about these programs below.
A growing need for food assistance offers no cause for celebration, yet your action, a gift made online today, will combine with others to reach thousands in need across Northwest NC.
Mobile Pantry Distributions

Through this program, Identified families and seniors will receive enough nutritious food for two meals per day for an entire month. Examples of food items to be provided include beef stew, chicken and dumplings, canned fruits and vegetables, rice and shelf-stable milk. In this first year of expansion, the Mobile Pantry Distribution program aims to reach 8,400 individuals.
Summer Meal Packs

There is no higher priority than to ensure the nutritional needs of children, our greatest asset. Summer Meal Packs distributed through selected partner agencies will provide nutritious food to children at high risk of hunger during the time that school is not in session in the summer. This program will serve nearly 18,000 eligible children –1,000 children in each of 18 counties.
