  • Before the COVID-19 Pandemic ever took hold of our communities, food insecurity was a significant challenge in our communities. Now, in the face of the pandemic:

    • 1 in 6 people living in the 18 counties served by Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina is going without sufficient food to live a healthy, active life.

    • 1 in 5 children is living at risk of going without the food they need for their health, learning, and development.

  • Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC serves as the primary provider of food for more than 430 local food assistance programs from Boone to Burlington and build solutions to help end hunger

  • Many of Second Harvest’s 430+ partner food assistance programs partner agencies are continuing to see a heightened need for food assistance in their communities.

  • Second Harvest Food Bank is experienced in responding to disasters – through hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, and more, the food bank and its on-the ground partners have always worked together to get food into communities and to families who need it most.

  • This pandemic is a public health and economic disaster that is impacting us all, and, most especially, the many families who were already struggling to make ends meet and also many who have never had to ask for assistance before.

  • Through the pandemic, Second Harvest had gone from moving 38 tons of food A DAY through its warehouses and out to where it is needed most to 50 tons a day.

  • Recovery is going to be a long and challenging process for untold numbers of families and businesses.
That means that Second Harvest is going to continue to need the support of all who are in a position to help.

  • Ways people and organizations can help:
