American Express Makes Significant Financial Gift to
Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC

Winston-Salem, NC – October 27, 2009 – American Express presented a check for a $20,000 grant to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC on Tuesday, October 27, at American Express in Greensboro. The grant is to support capacity building for store donation programs. 

The check presentation took place during American Express’s employee curb-side food drop, which is part of a 2-week food drive that will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank and Greensboro Urban Ministry.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina collects approximately 1.27 million pounds of food and grocery products annually from 60+ stores in its service area, primarily concentrated in Guilford and Forsyth counties. The food bank is working to increase its capacity to recover food from retail stores. Support from the American Express Foundation will help Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina access this critical source of nutritious food so it can meet the needs of hungry individuals and families throughout the Triad.
