A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT HELPS KIDS
WHILE BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITITES

Greensboro, NC (September 17, 2009) – Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, along with Sanctuary Deliverance Church and Harris Teeter will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony that will launch the Sanctuary Deliverance Church Kids Cafe on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, at Sanctuary Deliverance Church located at 3631 Summit Avenue in Greensboro.

The ceremony will host children from the Boys & Girls Club of Claremont Homes, allowing them to engage in various activities and games during the event, as well as a delightful hot meal to enjoy.  Speakers include Mayor Yvonne Johnson of Greensboro; Andy Scott, Assistant City Manager for the City of Greensboro; Amos Quick, Guilford County Schools Board of Education Vice Chairman; Clyde Fitzgerald, executive director for Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC; and Daisy Rodriguez, Director of Childhood Hunger Programs for Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. 

Kids Cafes, a program of Feeding America and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, provide children that are at risk of hunger an evening meal, tutoring and enrichment activities, three nights a week throughout the year, in a safe and nurturing environment.  This is the eleventh Kids Cafe opened by Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, which serves Guilford County - along with 17 other counties – from Boone to Burlington, NC.  This is also the fourth Guilford County Kids Cafe opening.  Nationwide, there are more than 1,300 Kids Café sites serving youth at risk of hunger.

Sanctuary Deliverance Church’s Kids Cafe began on September 1, 2009 and will operate Monday thru Wednesday, from 4:30p – 7:00pm.  This particular Kids Cafe site is a collaborative community effort.  Partners include Sanctuary Deliverance Church, Harris Teeter, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
