More than 422,000 children in North Carolina are food insecure – unable to consistently access adequate amounts of nutritious food that is necessary for a healthy life. And over 24,000 children in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools alone are eligible for free/reduced lunch.

“We aim to address this very serious—but solvable—problem of childhood hunger through the Summer Feeding Program, in addition to our other childhood hunger initiatives,” said Fitzgerald. “Funding is provided by the federal government, so the key is getting more children to take advantage of this program.”
