Triad Apartment Association and Greensboro Grasshoppers Team Up to Help Second Harvest Food Bank Greensboro, NC – May 28, 2009 – The Triad Apartment Association (TAA) and the Greensboro Grasshoppers are teaming up for the second annual “Knock Hunger Out of the Ballpark” on June 16, 2009 at NewBridge Bank Park. The purpose of this event is to collect food and financial donations for Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina and the Grasshoppers have agreed to donate $2 to Second Harvest for every ticket that TAA sells and TAA is going to station people at every gate at NewBridge Bank Park to collect food and cash donations during the game. The “Knock Hunger Out of the Ballpark” event is part of an extended effort by TAA to help Second Harvest fight hunger in the Piedmont Triad. Apartment communities throughout the Triad have Second Harvest collection boxes placed on their premises to collect donations and the goal is to collect 50,000 cans by the end of July, 2009. In 2008 TAA members were able to collect over 36,000 cans, but given the incredible rise in demand for Second Harvest’s services the members of TAA decided to step up and try to collect 40% more this year. In an effort to let the public know that a food collection event is being held during the Grasshoppers game on June 16th, the TAA is making it’s Food Drive organizers and Executive Director available for interviews beginning on June 15th. The goal is to get as many game attendees as possible to bring cans of food to donate to Second Harvest. Media organizations interested in scheduling an interview should contact Rachel Garavito, TAA’s Director of Communications at (336) 294-4428 or by email at Rachel@mytaa.org. The Triad Apartment Association (TAA) is the leading multi-family housing organization serving the Piedmont Triad. Originally organized by apartment owners and operators over 25 years ago, today TAA also works to serve Vendor Partners, residents, and the community-at-large. It is an advocate for the industry in local, regional, and national legislative issues. TAA provides leadership and resources to its members in order to create and operate apartment communities Triad residents can trust to meet their housing needs.
